Multiple injuries aboard Air Canada flight after plane hits turbulence

Dozens of people have been injured when an Air Canada flight to Australia encountered unexpected turbulence, forcing the plane to land in Hawaii on Thursday.

Passengers told reporters the turbulence had tossed people into the air, some hitting the ceiling.

The plane was flying over the Pacific Ocean when it experienced "un-forecasted turbulence", CTV News reported.

According toCTV News, on an Air Canada flight set to stop in Vancouver, an emergency landing was made called in Honolulu today.

The plane landed safely in Honolulu at 9:45 a.m. Vancouver time, said Air Canada spokeswoman Angela Mah.

CTV News reports that between 20-25 passengers and at least one crew member have been injured as a result of the incident.

Air Canada spokeswoman Isabelle Arthur says its first priority is the safety of passengers and crew.

Airline spokesperson, Peter Fitzpatrick said that the airline was in the process of arranging hotels and meals for all of the passengers that were on board the grounded-flight.

In June, a severe case of turbulence on a flight from Kosovo to Switzerland was captured on video.
