Al-Shabab Kills Kenyans in Deadly Hotel Attack in Somalia

An attack on a hotel in Somalia has left at least 26 people dead.

Islamist group al-Shabaab, which is trying to topple Somalia's central government, on Friday claimed responsibility for the attack, which saw fighters storm the hotel after targeting it with a vehicle bomb while local elders and lawmakers were meeting to discuss elections.

"Twenty-six people were killed in the attack and 56 others wounded, among those killed are. foreign nationals three Kenyans, one Canadian, one British, two Americans, and three Tanzanians".

He said authorities believed four gunmen, who one witness described as wearing Somali police uniforms, were involved in the attack. She founded Integration TV, an worldwide web-based video production company aimed at Somali viewers around the world.

In messages of condolence posted on Facebook, Texas-based Imam Omar Suleiman wrote, "She used to always take the time to send me kind messages after listening to a lecture and blew away everyone that knew her with her generous spirit".

Mr Maruf said Ms Nalayeh's husband, Farid Jama, had also been confirmed dead, as has prominent civil society figure and humanitarian worker Deq Isse Abdulle.

Nur said Nalayeh's death is a tragedy, not only for the Somali community, but for Canada as a whole.

In a recent podcast, Nalayeh said her television programme about the Somali diaspora gave the community a voice.

Somali Journalists Syndicate said Nalayeh has two children.

It was the largest coordinated attack by the Shabaab in Kismayo since 2012 when it lost control of the city.

"This is an attack meant to derail progress in Somalia as the country rebuilds and consolidates the gains made on peace and security", said Francisco Madeira, special representative of the chairman of the African Union Commission.

"I have known her as one person who always tells the world the positive side of Somalia through her online TV", tweeted the Garissa Township Member of Parliament.
