Former New York Mets pitcher and Cy Young victor Dwight "Doc" Gooden was arrested in New Jersey last month for cocaine possession and driving under the influence, it was revealed Friday. Monmouth County police said he was found with "two small green zip-lock style plastic baggies containing suspected cocaine".

Gooden has been charged with cocaine possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of drugs.

The former pitcher did not return a message from the newspaper and his family declined to comment.

Gooden is scheduled to appear in court on July 23 in this most recent arrest. Gooden was the NL Rookie of the Year in 1984, won the NL Cy Young Award in 1985, and was on the Mets' 1986 World Series title team.

"Doc" Gooden was pulled over last month by Holmdel, New Jersey, police when an officer observed him driving too slowly on a highway and not maintaining his lane.

England thrash Australia to qualify for Cricket World Cup final
With Chris Woakes (3/20) and Jofra Archer (2/32) cost Australia losing five wickets with a handful of runs on the board. And Morgan has urged the hosts "to not shy away" from the pressure of the final as "it's a day to look forward to".

Gooden has struggled with alcohol and substance abuse issues for decades, and was suspended the entire 1995 season after a positive drug test.

The four-time All-Star's history with drugs has been well documented, although he told the Post in 2016 that he had been completely sober following a rehab stint four years earlier.

Major League Baseball player Dwight "Doc" Gooden attends Annual Charity Day hosted by Cantor Fitzgerald, BGC and GFI at BGC Partners, INC on September 12, 2016 in New York City. Then in 2010, he was arrested in Franklin Lakes, NJ after crashing his auto while driving his five-year old son to school. "I've been trying behind the scenes to talk to him and get him to go for help, but he won't listen".

"The condition Doc is in, it's bad, it's frightful". He retired in 2001. Since his name received less than five percent of the vote, at 3.3 percent, he has been removed from all future considerations.
