Google Jumps Back Into Social Networking Fray With Shoelace

Google’s taking another crack at building a social network

While our goal is to bring Shoelace to cities nationwide, we've made a decision to focus our efforts on New York City at first. Suggestions for events are made based on the interests that users list when joining the network, with these activities referred to as "Loops" for some reason. So, you might be one of those lucky residents from NY who can see people using Shoelace app around you.

Further, regardless of your friends are using Shoelace or not, you will be able to share your interests with them as well.

Along with the geographical restrictions, Shoelace is also invite-only right now, and the app has partnered with select communities. It is available as a mobile app iOS and Android devices. It has quietly launched a new social networking app called Shoelace for a limited number of users.

Note that the launch of a new social network occurred a few months after the company officially closed the Google+ project. It is a boon for those who have recently moved to a new city or looking to explore nearby people. In short, Shoelace looks like a social network that encourages people to spend less time on their phones, and more time doing something, anything in real life.

'I'm Not A Fan Of Bitcoin And Other Cryptocurrencies'
The market has also faced allegations of money laundering and terrorist financing. The price of Bitcoin fell nearly 8% on Thursday after Powell's comments.

The Shoelace app has a map interface to view other people's loops and RSVP them.

After the Shutdown of Google+ in April, Google is once again back to the square one with the Shoelace. In India, one commonly used app is Google Neighbourly which works on a similar concept. As for the app making its way to other countries including India, we would advise you not to hold your breath.

Shoelace is not, technically speaking, a Google company product per se - it was actually built in the Area 120 incubator where the Google employees are free to experiment with whatever techy ideas they might come up with. Every day we find interesting things happening around you, from festivals to fashion shows, so you don't have to.
