Sharif's son offered me Rs500m bribe to resign, claims Pak judge

Pakistan: High Court orders removal of judge who convicted Nawaz Sharif after video leak

A Pakistani anti-corruption court judge on Friday was directed to "stop working" after a top court asked the law ministry to remove him from the post following the surfacing of a video, which purportedly showed the judge saying that he convicted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in a graft case due to pressure from "hidden hands".

Additionally, in his letter to the Islamabad High Court, Judge Malik has claimed that he was offered Rs500 million bribe by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's son Hussain Nawaz. During a recent press meet, Maryam had claimed that the judge was blackmailed into issuing a verdict against her father.

The Islamabad HC made a decision to remove the judge after he submitted an affidavit in court claiming he was offered bribes and threatened with dire consequences by PML-N representatives initially to force him into issuing verdicts in favour of Sharif in corruption references. Malik's removal order came after his letter to the court's acting chief justice, in which he claimed that the videos were fake. The Islamabad HC spokesperson said Malik's affidavit and letter have been made part of Sharif's acquittal plea.

She said Malik also admitted there was no evidence against Sharif, a claim the judge denies.

United Kingdom police launch probe into leak of ambassador's secret cables
The Official Secrets Act prohibits public servants from making "damaging" disclosures of classified material. The chances the leak came after a foreign government hack have been ruled out.

During the arguments stage of the references' trial, the judge said he was again approached by Janjua with a "financial offer" from Nawaz of Rs100 million but that he refused the offer.

In a tweet, the premier stated that the "mafia" was relying on the "tactics of bribe, threat, blackmail and begging to pressurise [the] state institutions and judiciary". Opposition leader in the National Assembly and PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif also called for the immediate release of his elder brother.

In a second tweet in Urdu, she alleged that the prime minister was "part of the heinous conspiracy that was staged to punish Nawaz Sharif and keep him out of the field".

The law minister later clarified that the sentence handed down by the judge in the Al-Azizia reference would not be overturned unless the IHC decided that the verdict was delivered under duress. "In the affidavit the judge has said that he issued the verdict without any pressure or intimidation", Nasim said.
