United Kingdom police launch probe into leak of ambassador's secret cables

Meanwhile, Mr Trump has suggested that he was too quick to denounce Sir Kim following the leak of his diplomatic dispatches in which he described the White House administration as "inept" and "dysfunctional".

Shadow global minister Liz McInnes said Sir Kim Darroch changed into once "factual doing his job" and the legal investigation changed into once "welcome".

In 2015, the United States, China, Britain, France, Russia and Germany signed a deal with Iran to limit its nuclear program in exchange for a partial lifting of global economic sanctions.

The newspaper reports that after Mr Johnson returned to the United Kingdom from the US, Sir Kim wrote that President Trump appeared to be abandoning the nuclear deal for "personality reasons" because the pact had been agreed by his predecessor, Barack Obama.

The paper also reported that Darroch hinted at discord brewing between Trump's closest aides and said the White House had failed to produce a "day-after" plan on how to handle the aftermath of withdrawing from the deal.

The Official Secrets Act prohibits public servants from making "damaging" disclosures of classified material.

On Friday, President Trump said he wished the susceptible ambassador correctly and that he had been instructed Sir Kim had if fact be told said "some very magnificent issues" about him.

Manhattan power outage affects tens of thousands, subway system
New Yorkers are also calling for help through social media, as at least one person has been trapped in an elevator by the outage. The utility did not immediately respond to phone messages, and it was unclear when they expected power to return.

"Given the widely reported consequences of that leak I am satisfied that there has been damage caused to United Kingdom global relations, and there would be clear public interest in bringing the person or people responsible to justice", Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said in a statement.

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, who is jousting with Boris Johnson to become Britain's next prime minister, tweeted Saturday that the person responsible for the leak must be found and held responsible, but he differed with police over whether the publication of leaks is a possible crime.

The Mail on Sunday published details of the dispatch from Sir Kim Darroch, despite a warning from Scotland Yard that journalists who released further details of the ambassador's communications could be in breach of the Officials Secrets Act (OSA).

The chances the leak came after a foreign government hack have been ruled out.

In a further statement on Saturday, Mr Basu insisted the Met had "no intention" of trying to prevent the publication of stories in the public interest.

"But they've got to stop their leaking problems there, just like they have to stop them in our country".

"What could be more in the public interest than a better understanding of how this position was reached, which may have serious consequences for world peace?" Unlike many other news organizations, we have not put up a paywall.
