How Raiola ruined Barça's last-ditch attempt to sign de Ligt

Picture: Matthijs de Ligt arrives to conclude transfer to Juventus

De Ligt, 19, had attracted interest from Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Bayern Munich among others after helping Ajax reach the Champions League semifinal and Netherlands the UEFA Nations League final.

De Ligt scored the victor in Turin as Ajax eliminated Juventus in the quarter-finals.

The Dutchman is expected to arrive in Turin on July 15.

It's still interesting how Mexican newspaper Record had a front page about Wolverhampton's efforts to sign the player, saying the transfer was close, and then completely ignored the chase.

In his three seasons at Ajax, he won the Eredivisie and the Dutch Cup, and was a Europa League finalist in 2017.

However, having found out of his intentions, Raiola spoke to Bartomeu to remind him that there would be no meeting unless the club would meet de Ligt's annual 10 million Euro salary demands.

Reports suggested the teenager has agreed a deal that will see him earn over £10 million a season in Italy.

"So soon after the game you are not at all concerned with it".

"My first football shirt also belonged to him from that time".

De Ligt will link up with the squad managed by ex-Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, who took over over from Max Allegri in the summer.

"Hopefully, things will progress, but I think there will be no further obstructions".
