Alex Rodriguez has possessions stolen from rental auto in San Francisco

In town broadcasting a Giants-Phillies game, Rodriguez elected to park his auto on the 400 block of Brannan Street, about three blocks away from Oracle Park.

A thief smashed into baseball legend Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez's rental vehicle Sunday night in San Francisco, making off with an estimated half-million dollars worth of jewelry and electronics, sources familiar with the investigation told The Chronicle.

"It's an unfortunate situation".

ESPN had rented the black Nissan SUV for A-Rod and other members of the channel's production team before it was broken into, the newspaper reported.

The "Sunday Night Baseball" broadcaster was at the baseball stadium working with his ESPN crew for most of the day, according to the website.

The team's first home game at TD Garden will take place two days later, when they take on the defending champion Toronto Raptors. Immediately after taking on Toronto in Boston, the Celtics will travel to NY for their first game against the Knicks.

Rodriguez was in town broadcasting the Giants and Philadelphia Phillies game for ESPN and he left his auto on the 400 block of Brannan Street, about three blocks from Oracle Park, sources said.

According to the Chronicle, the incident happened between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m local time about three blocks from Oracle Park.

Rodriguez, 44, is in his second season as an analyst on "Sunday Night Baseball" after a 22-year MLB career that ended in 2016.

Rodriguez and several of his colleagues were getting dinner after the game when the thief struck, an ESPN official said Monday.

The San Francisco Police Department are now handling the investigation. ESPN said Mendoza was not seriously injured and was recovering with her family and was expected back in the booth soon.
