TRIGGERED: Facebook testing the REMOVAL of Likes from the platform

Facebook experimenting with hiding likes, report says

The test was first spotted by app researcher Jane Manchun Wong.

Facebook on Tuesday (Sept 3) confirmed it is dabbling with no longer making a public display of how many "likes" are racked up by posts.

The feature is set to help users feel less anxious about the perceived popularity of their content.

The goal here is to make social media interactions less of a competition, though I do wonder how much of a benefit this implementation would be if the creator can still see the amount.

33 still missing in California boat fire, 5 crew members rescued
It wasn't immediately clear when the bodies on the ocean floor might be retrieved or when divers could search the boat for others. Kroll that says these numbers are based on initial reports and authorities are awaiting final counts from the autopsies.

Facebook might soon hide "like" counts in a bid to protect your mental health.

Back in July, Instagram started hiding the like counts from the posts because it wants your followers to "focus on the photos and videos you share, not on how many likes they get".

Currently, Instagram is testing the like-less feature in seven countries including Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Japan, Italy and Ireland. It's not clear when, if ever, Instagram will make the feature available to USA users. That includes Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, and core Facebook, with 2.1 billion of those people accessing one of the apps every day. Like counts are a big deal on social media platforms like Instagram, but people often to obsess over like counts to a point it affects their mental health. And brands will need to become more invested in the evaluation process - looking beyond how popular someone's posts may appear to be from the number of "Likes" they receive. The worry for the social media giant is if this brings down the number of posts on these sites then it could directly impact its ad revenue.

It is unclear when the feature will be available across both Facebook and Instagram, and no official findings from the Instagram tests have yet been released.
