The Wendy's Company announced plans Monday to launch its breakfast menu across the U.S.in 2020.

Wendy's said it will adapt many of its popular items into breakfast fare, so customers will find Frosty cappuccinos, honey butter chicken biscuits and Breakfast Baconators. Wendy's plans to hire about 20,000 U.S. employees for the initiative, the company said Monday.

Expanding breakfast to almost 6,000 stores nationwide will initially cost Wendy's about $20 million.

Breakfast may help drive growth, but it's a costly endeavor.

One such is the heat, which is not ideal for the battery or the device, and could potentially lead to issues over time. The consortium was formed with a view to "further expand and integrate wireless charging into everyday life scenarios".

"Breakfast Baconator" is an egg, several slices of bacon, a sausage patty, two slices of American cheese and a dollop of hollandaise sauce. Wendy's has previously tried pushing breakfast in past years with lackluster sales results.

"Launching breakfast in our USA restaurants nationwide provides incredible growth opportunities", Wendy's President and CEO Todd Penegor said in a statement, adding that having Wendy's "fan favorites" on the breakfast menu will set it apart from the competition. Shares dipped about 3% after the market closed Monday on the news.

Adjusted EBITDA will be flat to down 2 per cent, below the 2.5 to 4.5 per cent growth it had been targeting. A spokesperson told CNN Business that Wendy's plans to offer more than that, including seasoned potatoes and croissant sandwiches.

Wendy's also said it is no longer sticking to its 2020 goals, as it will have to update them to include the expected impact of the breakfast plan.

McDonald's, on the other hand, has been scaling back its all-day breakfast offerings at select franchises.
