Body of Robert Mugabe en route from Singapore to Zimbabwe for burial

A vehicle believed to be carrying the body of former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has left a Singapore funeral parlour.

There, Mugabe hoisted the new Zimbabwe flag and lit the independence flame on April 18, 1980 - bringing hope for a new era after a long guerrilla war.

On Tuesday, a government minister said the burial was planned for Sunday, a day after the state funeral.

The former president had been receiving hospital treatment in the city state before he died last week aged 95.

Mugabe's wife, Grace, and the Zimbabwean vice-president Kembo Mohadi were among those accompanying the body on the plane, according to Leo Mugabe, a nephew and family spokesman.

On Thursday, Zimbabweans would pay their respects to Mugabe at a Harare football stadium, where the body would lie in state before being taken to his rural home in Kutama, 50 miles (85km) from the capital, the family spokesman added.

The body is expected in the country this Wednesday, with burial set for Sunday 15 September.

North Korea fires projectiles after offering talks with US
What Happened: North Korea test-fired two projectiles into the Sea of Japan early on September 10 local time, Yonhap reported. The JCS said they received warnings of the twin launches at 6:53 am and 7:12 am Korean time.

But when pressed on where Mugabe would be buried, Leo Mugabe was non-committal.

Of course, the Government ignored our appeal, and Mr Mugabe continued his tyrannical rule on Zimbabwe until the military, which he controlled throughout his tenure as president, finally woke up on November 14, 2017 and placed him under house arrest with his family.

Around two thousand supporters, family members and government officials were on the tarmac at Harare airport to welcome Mugabe's remains as they arrived by charter flight from Singapore, an AFP reporter at the scene said.

His burial at Heroe's Acre is still being contested.

Mr Adam Molai, who is married to Mr Mugabe's niece Sandra Mugabe, said: "We had a very touching ceremony.it was a very befitting mass, just to see off the body of president Mugabe". He held on to power for nearly four decades before being ousted in a coup in 2017.

Speaking during a post cabinet press briefing Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said Mugabe's body will arrive in the country on Wednesday afternoon and the details of his burial will be advised in due course.
