IL teen's memory resets every two hours after head injury

An Illinois teenager says her memory has reset every two hours since suffered a traumatic head injury three months ago, and even doctors are baffled over her condition, according to KTLA sister station WQAD in Moline.

Riley Horner, a native of Monmouth, Illinois, told WQAD-TV that her issues started on June 11 after she was accidentally kicked in the head during a school dance.

For months Riley Horner still wakes up thinking it's June 11 - the day of her accident.

"I have a calendar on my door and I look and it's September and I'm like "woah", Riley said.

Riley Horner, 16, was accidentally kicked in the head by a student who was crowd-surfing at a dance during a youth agriculture convention in IL.

Despite dozens of trips to hospitals close to home in Monmouth, doctors still seemed baffled as to exactly what is causing her weird memory loss, her family says.

According to WQAD News, Riley's doctors say her case is a "medical mystery" as they can not find anything physically wrong with her through CT scans or MRIs.

"They can't see anything medically". They can't find anything physically wrong with her through CT scans or MRIs, which makes coming up with the proper diagnosis almost impossible.

"My brother passed away last week, and she probably has no idea", Sarah told WQAD 8.

"They told us that she may just be like this forever".

"I am not okay with that", her mother said.

Riley has been in and out of the hospital and doctors still deem her case a medical mystery.

'We want assist. We want any person that is aware of just a little bit extra as a result of she deserves higher.

"I'm very confused and I try to think back and I can't", Riley said. 'And I'm just like really scared'.

Sarah said research has shown that at six months with short term memory, it can cause irreversible damage. Everything is more complicated when you just. can not. remember.

Horner and her mother Sarah say doctors can't seem to find anything wrong.

It also means she has no recollection of major family events.

"We need help", she pleaded.

Before the incident, Riley was a bright student and active athlete.
