‘Saturday Night Live’ Adds Three New Cast Members for Season 45

Today, Saturday Night Live announced the hiring of Bowen Yang, the show's first-ever cast member of East Asian decent, as well as Shane Gillis and Chloe Fineman.

Saturday Night Live will feature three new cast members when it returns to NBC later this month.

Saturday Night Live has taken heat over the years for an overall lack of ethnic diversity, with scant Asian representation among its cast members or hosts. The writer/performer popped up on Saturday Night Live past year as Kim-Jong un in a sketch with host Sandra Oh. Leslie Jones will be leaving the show after five seasons on the show. He has performed stand-up at various NY clubs and was featured as a New Face at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal.

In the two-minute clip from an episode titled "Ka-Pow", Gillis and co-host Matt McCusker denigrate Chinatown; in addition to using the anti-Chinese slur, Gillis mimics a Chinese accent and mocks the conventions of Chinese restaurants.
