Robert Downey Jr. Reportedly Returning As Tony Stark In 'Black Widow'

There are too many emotional moments to count, but you'd be hard pressed to find a more heartbreaking scene than Tony Stark's sacrifice to save the universe.

Marvel veteran Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly set to return as Tony Stark in the Black Widow spin-off, according to Deadline. Robert Downey Jr. played Iron Man perfectly for over a decade, embodying the character to a tee. It's unknown how big Downey Jr's role in the film will be. In fact, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanoff also died in the film.

If it is true, it will be great to see Robert Downey Jr. one more time as Stark, even if it's in a prequel film. We opted to, and knew it was part of the job to get off the bus while it rolled on to other destinations. The film will trace the story of Romanoff, who will confront her past. "When the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics breaks up, the government tries to kill her as the action moves to present-day NY, where she is a freelance operative".

Black Widow hits theaters on May 1, 2020. At Comic-Con earlier this year, Marvel made it clear that Black Widow would be set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, giving the idea of this cameo some credence.

So, his appearance would make much sense, from a continuity perspective.

As is common in Marvel films, the Iron Man cameo is probably created to give a friendly boost to the movie and attract more fans to the theaters, a lot of whom would willingly watch an entire movie about Widow just for a few minutes of Iron Man screentime. Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow also stars David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz, in pivotal roles.
