Australia defeat Sri Lanka in first women’s ODI

Australia Women Thrash Sri Lanka in First ODI to Take Series Lead

Captain Meg Lanning won the toss and elected to bat first on a handsome day for cricket in Brisbane. Healthy contributions from Rachel Haynes (56) and Beth Mooney (66) gave Australia a solid total of 8/281.

Australia lost opener Alyssa Healy for just 8 but Haynes and Lanning added 126 for the second wicket. "It's part of the game, we haven't spoken a lot about it, we've spoken about what we can control and making sure we stay in our crease until the ball's let go". From there on, it was just one-way traffic as wickets kept tumbling. Sri Lankan innings never got going losing wickets at the regular intervals the first setback being losing their first wicket in the first over itself.

Australian spinners Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham and Jess Jonassen picked two wickets apiece to prevent the visitors from settling on a warm, gusty day in Brisbane. Australia has been dominating and look set to do so in the coming games as well.
