Former Saints players including Joe Callahan, Khairi Fortt enter XFL Draft

The XFL has announced the rules for its upcoming draft

There will be 1,000 players in the draft pool, with the league saying in a release that it would begin releasing the names Monday and that all names would be released by Friday. After the initial quarterback assignments, the remaining players will be subject to a five-phase draft divided roughly by position groups: skill positions, offensive line, defensive front seven and defensive backs.

The forthcoming revival of the XFL will hold its inaugural player draft October 15-16, with selections to be announced on digital and social media.

The draft will proceed with a "snake" format, meaning that the team picking first overall in the first round will pick last in the second round.

So far, 13 players with regional ties to the Kansas City and Wichita areas are set to be included as draft candidates for the new league.

Luck later told ESPN that there will be a supplemental draft at the end of November for players that were ineligible to be drafted in October. The XFL previously announced that it had signed former Steelers quarterback Landry Jones, though he has yet to be assigned to a team.

The XFL plans to play a 10-week regular season set to kick off on February 8. Its eight franchises are all owned by the league and are located in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, St. Louis, Seattle, Washington and Tampa Bay, Florida. Training camps will begin in January and the first games will be February 8, 2020.

The league will feature a tiered salary structure, with one player paid between $250,000 and $600,000 for the season, three players paid between $150,000 and $175,000, 23 players paid between $70,000 and $100,000 and 18 players paid between $50,000 and $70,000.
