Publicist Harlan Boll confirmed the death but did not provide a cause. "He didn't have an easy childhood", Boll said".

Born Charles Taylor in Washington, D.C., he got his start as a stand-up comic playing clubs in the Catskills after he'd served in the Army during the Korean War. The world never really had a problem laughing at the comedian who, per NPR, became known for his "outrageous antics" and "flamboyant style", with a penchant for tossing scraps of papers around in his wake-earning him a second nickname, the "King of Confetti". "That killed 'em." It's where he said the character "Rip" came from.

Mr. Taylor ended up on tour with Judy Garland and Eleanor Powell in Las Vegas in 1966.

In the 1970s and early 1980s, you could also catch Taylor as a celebrity player on such games shows as Hollywood Squares, Match Game, and Password. With his bushy blond toupee, exaggerated eyebrows and walrus mustache, Taylor was a striking presence. For his distinguished career, the comedian was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Taylor also had a lengthy voiceover resume, which boasted episodes (and various TV-movies) of such iconic properties as The Addams Family, DuckTales, The Flintstones, Garfield, The Jetsons, Popeye and Scooby Doo. He portrayed Fagin in "Oliver!" and Captain Hook in "Peter Pan". Taylor was also called "The Master of Mayhem" and "The Prince of Pandemonium".

"Rip is amusing because he's insane. Thank you for all the laughter you brought me", comedian David Alan Grier posted on Twitter.

Taylor is survived by his longtime companion Robert Fortney.
