United Kingdom Brexit minister to meet European Union negotiator on Thursday

Boris Johnson is running out of time to get a Brexit Deal done amid the October 31 deadline

Earlier an anonymous No 10 source had briefed broadcast journalists suggesting German chanceller Angela Merkel has rejected the United Kingdom government's new proposals for an all-Ireland regulatory zone.

Responding to Downing Street's comments, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: "The UK government's attempts to shift the blame for the Brexit fiasco to anyone but themselves - today it's Merkel - is pathetically transparent".

"It was a very useful clarifying moment in all sorts of ways", the unnamed source, quoted by Sky News, said.

The prime minister's spokesman said the talks were clearly at a critical stage.

But Mr Varadkar told an interviewer on Tuesday evening he thought it would be "very difficult" to secure an agreement by next week.

Germany has been one of the most outspoken advocates for allowing the United Kingdom as much flexibility as possible to avoid a no-deal scenario on 31 October or at a later date. "And, of course, it isn't really", said the Irish leader.

Many in the European Union - and in Britain - are skeptical that Britain will leave the bloc on Oct. 31, because the U.K. Parliament has passed a law compelling the government to ask the European Union for a delay to Brexit if no deal is agreed upon by October 19.

The U.K. Parliament is set to be suspended later Tuesday so that a new session can begin next week with a major policy speech from Johnson's Conservative government. "Requesting extension is the prerogative of the UK".

Jets QB Darnold cleared to face Cowboys
On Monday, Adam Gase stated Darnold would, indeed, start if given medical clearance on Tuesday, and that's exactly what happened. In Darnold's only start of the season, he completed 68.3 percent of his passes, and threw for 175 yards and one touchdown.

The No 10 source suggested Mrs Merkel told her counterpart the only way to break the deadlock was for Northern Ireland to stay in the customs union and for it to permanently accept EU single market rules on trade in goods. He said he would be available 24/7 in the coming days to try to strike a deal.

The prime minister's official spokesman said the conversation had been "frank" but denied the negotiations were all but over. European Commission spokeswoman Mina Andreeva said "the EU position has not changed".

The EU's executive agreed on Wednesday with the assessment of the bloc's Brexit negotiator that the British proposals did "not represent a satisfactory solution", the bloc's top budget official, Guenther Oettinger, said. The biggest hurdle to a deal remains the post-Brexit border arrangements between the British province of Northern Ireland and European Union member Ireland. None of us want to have a prime minister who is facing contempt of court proceedings.

'We'll either leave with no deal on 31 October or there will be an election and then we will leave with no deal.

But Johnson has repeatedly said he will not shift on the issue, pointing to a collapse in the negotiations just weeks before Britain's scheduled European Union exit on October 31.

According to London, Merkel demanded a rewrite of Britain's approach to the long-vexing Irish border problem that made a compromise "essentially impossible".

Late Monday night, an 800-word text message attributed to someone in Johnson's office, was published on the Spectator magazine and it blamed the EU's refusal to move on the Irish border question. "The coming weeks will likely bring an extension of the Brexit deadline". The speech will then be debated by MPs throughout the week.

Johnson's Brexit envoy, diplomat David Frost, is in Brussels for technical talks on a possible withdrawal agreement to put to EU leaders at next week's European summit.
