Police officers seized by Indigenous protesters following anti-government protests in Ecuador

At least one killed in unrest in Ecuador during national strike - ombudsman

Protests have disrupted Ecuador's crude output and fuel delivery, leading to a shortage of gasoline in some areas.

The Foreign Office's travel advice page for Ecuador advises travellers to the region of the protests saying they have been "extensive" and have caused "nationwide disruption, with demonstrations and road blockages in many provinces".

About 700 people have been arrested for vandalism and other protest-related crimes since the unrest began, according to officials.

He returned briefly to Quito Wednesday as thousands of people representing indigenous groups, farmers, students and labor unions marched in the city, with clashes erupting between protestors and police.

"With the blood of our brothers, we won't negotiate", indigenous leader Jaime Vargas declared in a speech to the crowd.

"Without a doubt, this is going to be solved very soon", Moreno said in a video broadcast on state television following the day's violence.

"We are calling on the national government to eradicate violence and guarantee the exercise of the right to social protest in a peaceful manner", it said.

On October 1 President Lenin Moreno announces the end of government subsidies keeping down fuel costs, heralding price hikes of up to 123 percent. The president's office said two people died. He said he would resign "under no circumstance", but was open to mediation through the United Nations or the Roman Catholic Church.

Ecuador's indigenous groups make up a quarter of the country's 17.3 million population.

Following the signs being taken away, Wachs stood up and yelled "Free Hong Kong " during the second quarter. On its Weibo page, Anta announced Tuesday that it would halt contract negotiations with the league.

The office of Ecuador's ombudsman, which monitors conflicts, said one protester was killed due to brain trauma on Wednesday.

Apart from the five dead, 122 people have been injured in the clashes, with 766 detained, according to the latest figures from the authorities and the Red Cross.

In Guayaquil, a stronghold of the business community, thousands demonstrated Wednesday in support of the president.

The Ecuador government has alleged the supporters of former president for the unrests, accusing them of attempting to overthrow the present government. "He's doing everything wrong", said Maria Lourdes Castillo, a 26-year-old broccoli picker from the highland province of Cotopaxi as she took off her shoes to rest her feet during a brief break from protests.

But Moreno has refused to overturn the measures and has blamed unrest - without evidence - on his leftist predecessor Rafael Correa and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The interior minister María Paula Romo tweeted that 17 Venezuelans had been detained leaving Quito's global airport on Thursday.

Moreno has drawn support, however, from seven Latin American countries - including Argentina, Brazil and Colombia - that, in a joint statement, rejected any effort by Maduro and his allies to "destabilize" Ecuador.

"We also reject all actions meant to destabilize our democracies on the part of the Nicolás Maduro regime and those who seek to extend the influence of his nefarious government project to the democratic countries of the region", the statement added.
