Tip Top Poultry initiated the recall after "multiple samples of product produced by Tip Top Poultry, Inc. confirmed positive for the presence of listeria monocytogenes after being tested in Canada", the USDA's recall alert stated.

Tip Top Poultry added additional products to the recall list yesterday, according to WFTS-TV.

The frozen cooked, diced or shredded, RTE chicken products were produced between January 21 and September 24.

This recall has now been extended to products that contained the possibly contaminated chicken including pre-made chicken sandwiches, wraps and salads. A list of retailers can be found in the linked spreadsheet. "P-17453" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The USDA also has a list of affected products.

The recall was expanded Tuesday, October 8, to include more products.

There have been no confirmed reports of any illnesses related to the recalled products. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. It can cause muscle aches, headaches, fever, loss of balance, stiff, and diarrhea and other gastrointestinal problems, according to the USDA.

UAW workers march in Detroit as GM strike enters 26th day
An analyst estimates that GM is losing $82 million per day, while workers are having to live on $250 per week in strike pay. Workers and the union are pushing GM on a host of issues, including wages, health care and the use of temporary workers.

An outbreak of listeria in the USA lasted from November 2016 to September 2019 and affected 10 people in five states, according to the CDC.

In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn.

While anyone is susceptible to listeriosis, those most at-risk include older adults, pregnant women, unborn babies and those with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in institutional and consumers' refrigerators and freezers.

"As a family business, we take food safety seriously because it is so critical to our own families and friends' health and safety in addition to anyone who consumes our products", said owner Brad Respess in the statement.
