Brendan Rodgers plays down rumours over Arsenal link

Morgan Schneiderlin passed a late fitness test after he picked up a knock but is not named in the starting XI

Brendan Rodgers has all but ruled himself out of the running to become Arsenal's manager next by saying that he is very happy at Leicester and has no need to "look elsewhere".

After Leicester edged Everton 2-1 to stay second and eight points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, Rodgers was asked about the rumours.

It has been rumoured that Rodgers has a £14m release clause in his contract, and the boss suggested to Sky Sports that those reports could be true, but he did move to distance himself from the Arsenal job.

But Rodgers, who only joined Leicester from Scottish champions Celtic in February, reiterated his commitment to the Foxes.

'I've mentioned my taxi ride with him before.

"Names will get thrown in left, right and centre".

'If he wasn't going to get it post Wenger, then he had to make the right choices to still be in contention down the line.

Leicester's next game is against bottom club Watford on Wednesday. I made a change nine months ago and I have been very happy since I came here. This was an ambition to come here and help the club arrive in the top six.

Having lost defensive lynchpin Harry Maguire for around £80 million (RM431 million) to Manchester United, his understudy Soyuncu has seamlessly slotted into the back line and has played every minute in the league this season.

"And I think with Richarlison's goal, they deserved to go in 1-0 up against Leicester City". The club has been first class with me.

I'm working with a young group of players that has so much potential and wants to improve and want to develop.

"So like I said, most manager's contracts will have something in that but my only concentration is Leicester".

"There probably is in most manager's contracts", Rodgers said. "It's all hypothetical - all these types of situations", he confessed.
