Wintry weather bedeviled Thanksgiving weekend travellers across the United States on Saturday as a powerful and risky storm moved eastward, dumping heavy snow from parts of California to the northern Midwest and inundating other areas with rain.
A powerful storm from California is moving east toward the Midwest, where it is expected to bring intensifying snow and ice during the year's busiest travel weekend.
The Weather Service predicted that 4 to 7 inches of snow would fall on the Twin Cities between 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The storm is expected to shift to the Northeast on Sunday, Brink said, bringing heavy snow to the interior of New England and a wintry mix and rain to coastal cities.
The video was posted to Instagram by Sarah Gordee, who said she filmed it in Duluth on Saturday night.
As of midday on Sunday, several flights were canceled or delayed at the Greater Rochester International Airport. A blizzard warning remains in effect for Duluth and parts of the North Shore through noon Sunday, and the city has issued a no-travel advisory.
Up to a foot of snow has been forecast for much of interior MA, with Boston projected to get between 3 and 6 inches.
Storms could affect post-Thanksgiving travel
All roads in and out of Casper were closed Saturday morning, including the entire 300-mile stretch of Interstate 25 in Wyoming. Northeastern Colorado roads were closed because of strong winds, blowing and drifting snow and poor visibility.
The storm system will cause widespread weather-related hazards through the Thanksgiving weekend as it tracks west to east across the lower 48, the National Weather Service said.
Inclement weather was expected to impact travel across much of the USA ahead of the busiest air travel day of the year.
A record 31.6 million passengers will travel on U.S. airlines during the Thanksgiving holiday period, according to a forecast by Airlines For America, an American airline trade organization.
Snow could be heavy times, especially in the Lower Hudson Valley of NY and into CT.
A winter storm is moving across the region today and tomorrow, with freezing rain, sleet and heavy snow predicted for much of central NY and Northeastern Pennsylvania. "High winds are expected, and Blizzard Warnings are in effect for parts of the Northern/Central Plains".
Major interstates in Colorado that closed Saturday also were reopened by Sunday morning. Unsafe conditions will make travel nearly impossible. Wells College is also closed Monday. He says deputies have been dealing with accidents and vehicles going off the road by drivers going too fast for conditions.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation's highway road condition map, roads were completely snow covered through much of north central Minnesota and partly covered in the metro area Saturday morning.
