Google CEO Sundar Pichai is taking over as CEO of Alphabet, too

Sundar Pichai Now CEO of Both Google and Alphabet

Sundar Pichai was nominated as a new CEO at Google's parent firm Alphabet after the co-founders of the US-based tech giant Larry Page and Sergey Brin submmited their resignation on Tuesday. Google CEO Sundar Pichai will become CEO of Alphabet, and retain his current role at Google. With this change taking place, newly-appointed Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai's responsibilities will now include managing Nest, Waymo, Wing, and other subsidiaries that were related to but not directly affiliated with Google.

Page and Brin note they "are deeply committed to Google and Alphabet for the long term, and will remain actively involved as Board members, shareholders, and co-founders" and will hold regular talks with Pichai.

Page has been criticized for not engaging more as Google's growing power has sparked scrutiny from regulators and lawmakers. Nonetheless, they "believe it's time to assume the role of proud parents-offering advice and love, but not daily nagging!"

Google, the company that was known for the motto "don't be evil", has been known for its open and freewheeling culture, with employees encouraged to speak out.

The company isn't filling Mr Brin's position as president. It's hard to make it through a whole day without using one of Google's services - ranging from online tools to email, cloud computing systems, phones and smart speaker hardware.
