Jay-Z’s 50th birthday celebrated with a return to Spotify

Jay-Z marks 50th birthday by adding his music on to Spotify

The rapper's streaming service, Tidal, will run a special video stream of all things Jay-Z, including interviews, performances, and music videos today as well. His catalog was removed from Apple Music and Spotify at the same time in 2017 - Hov co-owns the main streaming competitor Tidal - but restored to Apple Music soon after.

Jay-Z's catalog is finally back on Spotify.

In a post on Twitter, Spotify's official page shared: "Happy birthday, Hov".

The announcement was a surprise, given that over the last two years, Spotify didn't have access to Jay-Z's music.

For now, fans can now enjoy streaming Jay-Z albums like "American Gangster" or "Watch the Throne" on his 50th birthday.

Jay-Z has over 8.4 million monthly listeners per his Spotify page, which will gain a considerable boost in the short term.

In the next month, fans will also be able to listen to the entire catalog of the late Aaliyah in most of the music streaming platforms just in time for her birthday, which falls on January 16. He originally removed his songs from both Apple Music and Spotify in April 2017, although they were nearly immediately reinstated on the former.
