What to expect on impeachment following release of brutal Intel report

Schiff impeachment report offers nothing but predetermined conclusion

A trio of legal scholars argued at the first House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearing Wednesday that President Donald Trump's unprecedented conduct was evidence of impeachable offenses, amid vocal protests and repeated procedural roadblocks thrown up by Republicans protesting impeachment proceedings.

Democratic Rep. Jerrold Nadler of NY says that if Congress doesn't hold Trump in check now, he "will nearly certainly try again to solicit interference in the election for his personal political gain".

The Wednesday hearing, which will feature constitutional law experts, follows a series of public hearings in the House Intelligence Committee where current and former administration officials testified as part of the House Democrat-led investigation into the Ukraine scandal.

Trump said that there "should never be an impeachment, that phone call was totally appropriate".

The House released a sweeping impeachment report Tuesday outlining evidence of what it calls President Donald Trump's wrongdoing toward Ukraine, findings that will serve as the foundation for debate over whether the 45th president should be removed from office. That issue, Turley said, was when Trump asked White House counsel Don McGhan to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.

Trump in London abruptly cancelled a planned news conference at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leadership conference and returned early to Washington where he now confronts the rising challenge to his leadership that impeachment represents. Republicans repeatedly forced procedural votes and quizzed Nadler on committee rules as they dismissed the impeachment proceeding as a sham.

"I think they should have just said, this is a very serious, sober experience for the country to go through, we're not going to talk about it until we have the facts", Card said.

Australia to face Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay in 2020 Copa America
The Selecao beat Peru 3-1 in the 2019 Copa America final having also seen off Argentina and Paraguay on their way to the decider. The 12-team tournament, which runs from June 12 to July 12, will be co-hosted, for the first time, by Colombia and Argentina .

"The framers would identify President Trump's conduct as exactly the "high crimes and misdemeanors" in the Constitution", Mr. Gerhardt said.

Doug Collins, the top Republican on Judiciary Committee, lamented the panel's process saying Democrats were moving to impeach Trump for political reasons.

Democrats should be asking the scholar, George Washington University's Jonathan Turley, about his opposition to impeachment so there could be a "competing set of opinions", Garrett said.

While Napolitano mentioned his friendship with Turley, he said that Turley was "forgetting" that the House has sole-"s-o-l-e"-power of impeachment".

"We're looking forward to making the Democrats pay the opportunity cost for this impeachment", he stated. "If we do not act to hold him in check, now, President Trump will nearly certainly try again to solicit interference in the election for his personal political gain".

"The Constitution says there can be no titles of nobility", Karlan said. If the House votes to impeach Trump, a trial would be held in the Senate.

However, an aide to a member of the House Judiciary Committee, which is responsible for drafting the impeachment articles, countered that this possibility was off the table.
