Smartphones Could Soon Allow You To Scan Two Fingerprints Simultaneously

Qualcomm is now introducing the 3D Sonic Max fingerprint sensor, the company's latest fingerprint scanner that introduces significantly improved security features.

Qualcomm has launched 3D Sonic Max to overcome the issues faced by the first generation sonic sensor that debuted on the Samsung Galaxy S10.

Qualcomm and Apple recently signed a multi-year agreement, and "priority number one of [the] relationship with Apple is how to launch their phone as fast as we can", according to Amon. Qualcomm 3D Sonic sensors live beneath a smartphone screen's surface and provide single-touch authentication using sound waves instead of light to recognize users. While most of the affordable smartphones primarily offer a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner along, the premium ones come with an in-display fingerprint scanner. It means you can generally jab your fingertips in the lower center portion of the screen and stand a decent chance of hitting the right spot. The interesting part here is that the sensor can now recognize two fingerprints at once.

He stated "we're very happy with the progress we're making, and I expect that they're going to have a great device". Indeed, Samsung used the company's first-generation ultrasonic print scanners in its Galaxy S10 and Note 10+ handsets.

Qualcomm says the sensor can be placed anywhere the company wants, and it's just 0.15 mm thick so it really doesn't impede on the placement of any other components in the phone.

Second, that voters will care what the "world" thinks, rather than rallying around the president in a tribal reaction. The video concludes with several shots of Joe Biden accompanied by the text, " We need a leader the world respects ".

Finally, and exceedingly welcome, is a new turn of speed.

The chip-maker also claims that the new sensor is fast and fairly easy to use, but we'll have to check that out for ourselves when phones with the sensor launch, which they're expected to in 2020.

That, I suspect, is the key to success.

The work on the 5G iPhone is already under way, and Amon himself admitted that he wishes Apple and Qualcomm settled their legal dispute earlier to have more time to work on this project. And speaking of heightened security, the sensor can also recognize blood flow and heart rate as another level of authentication that the finger being placed on the sensor is actually a live person's.
