WNBA, players’ union agree to landmark deal in new collective-bargaining agreement

That's more than triple the max salary under the previous CBA.

The new eight-year pact will raise the average compensation to $130,000, up considerably from last year and the $54,000 salary figure that a significant number of players played for 2019.

Players will also earn compensation through base salary, performance bonuses, and league and team marketing deals. Players could also now earn up to $250,000 in league marketing agreements, allowing some top players to earn as much as $500,000 a year.

It is an exciting, long-awaited moment for the WNBA to reach this agreement to provide players with the salaries and compensation they deserve, but let's not forget. this is just the beginning for women and sports.

Other top players could make between $200,000 and $300,000 as well. League mothers will also be provided a two-bedroom apartment during the season as well as a yearly childcare stipend of $5,000.

The league says it will share revenue with players on a 50-50 basis if the league meets revenue growth targets from broadcast agreements, marketing partnerships and licensing deals.

Unless you've been living under a rock, harbor negative or indifferent feelings towards women's sports this is an issue WNBA players have been battling for years.

Ranked Barty overcomes late collapse to advance to third round
Sandgren, unseeded this year, beat doubles specialist and local hope Michael Venus 6-4, 6-3, serving up 15 aces along the way.

During away trips, the league now has a mandate for each player to have their own hotel room instead of sharing. Low salaries in the past meant numerous league's top players had to play overseas in the offseason to earn more money. In this new agreement, however, the league has asked players to decrease their other offseason playing commitments. On "Good Morning America", player Nneka Ogwumike, Chiney's sister, says this goes way beyond basketball.

Players will receive increased family benefits as part of the new CBA.

The deal, according to Nneka Ogwumike, president of the Women's National Basketball Players Association, not only improves working conditions, but it also marks a progressive business model "with strategic planning and intentional marketing that will keep the WNBA front and center year-round".

Workplace accommodations for nursing mothers. Costs for adoption, surrogacy as well as fertility/infertility treatment are also covered.

The deal also include mental health and domestic violence education and resources and a program to provide off-season job opportunities to prepare players for their post-retirement life. "I think we came in understanding that it wasn't just about the top player".

In addition, the WNBA launched Changemakers, a collective of companies that is created to directly support the WNBA financially in its transformation across marketing, branding and player and fan experience. The inaugural partners of the new initiative are sportswear giant Nike, telecommunications company AT&T and professional services firm Deloitte.
