Captain Marvel 2 Officially in Development with WandaVision Writer

‘Captain Marvel’ Sequel Officially In Development At Disney’s Marvel Studios

As one of the few cosmic Marvel superheroes, another trip into the stars would be very welcome in Captain Marvel 2, especially when Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is still years away.

The original movie's co-writers and directors - Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck - won't be back for the sequel. Hiring staff writers from WandaVision onto the movies is a smart way to keep everything organized-similar to how Captain America screenwriters Markus & McFeely worked on Agent Carter-but let's also hope that Captain Marvel 2 will work as its own movie and not as an episode in Disney's multimedia experiment.

A Marvel source says that Megan McDonnell, part of the writing team for the upcoming Disney+ MCU series WandaVision, is in advanced negotiations to chart the course for Captain Marvel's second cinematic solo flight. Disney has previously reserved three 2022 dates - February 18, July 29, and October 7 - for as-yet-unnamed Marvel Studios film.

Marvel is now eyeing a 2022 release date for Captain Marvel 2. Captain Marvel raked in over $1.1 billion worldwide and kicked off word-of-mouth buzz that prompted a highly publicized (and slightly disappointing) extended appearance for Larson in Avengers: Endgame.

In Captain Marvel, Larson plays a fighter-pilot-turned-superhero, Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel).

A sequel to Captain Marvel, which the actress starred in in 2019, is officially in the works and set to premiere some time in 2022, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The follow-up to Marvel's billion-dollar, female-led film has been eagerly anticipated, though the studio has been hush-hush about any details up until now.
