Stormy Daniels says jury found Michael Avenatti's 'true character'

Attorney Michael Avenatti faces two other federal cases- one in New York and another in Los Angeles. File

Michael Avenatti has been found guilty on all charges related to an alleged plot to siphon more than $20 million from Nike Inc.

Avenatti was arrested a year ago on charges that alleged he tried to bribe Nike into paying him $25 million while threatening to expose the shoe company for allegedly making illicit payments to top high school basketball players, according to CNN.

On Friday, a jury in NY convicted the lawyer, who is best know for once representing Stormy Daniels, on all three counts; attempted extortion, honest services wire fraud and transmission of interstate communications with intent to extort. When Nike became aware of this matter, Nike immediately reported it to federal prosecutors.

He could face up to 42 years in prison.

While Daniels wrote Avenatti's Nike conviction Friday was "just", she added that she couldn't help but feel regretful she'd trusted him. The troubled California lawyer faces two more upcoming criminal trials over allegations that he defrauded clients, including Daniels (whose given name is Stephanie Clifford). Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles succeeded last month in getting him locked up after saying he violated his $300,000 bail by moving money around illegally after his arrest.

Senate moves to limit Trump on military force against Iran
This has gone hand in hand with their failure to take any action to hold Trump to account for his violations of the Constitution. During his speech I noticed the lady behind him was making odd faces, talking to herself, rustling papers, couldn't sit still.

The California lawyer was charged in March after he met with Nike attorneys to discuss claims by his client, a youth basketball coach, that the company bribed top players to attend colleges with Nike-sponsored teams.

Avenatti did not testify, but his lawyers said he was following the wishes of Franklin and an entertainment executive who advised him to be aggressive to force Nike to fire corrupt executives and fix its culture.

Attorney Michael Avenatti leaving court on October 8, 2019. He said he wanted to stop the alleged payments and corruption.

They had looked up firms that had "successfully sued Nike" and said it was time to "go after Nike". defense attorney Scott Srebnick said in closing arguments. A judge set sentencing for June.

Mr. Avenatti's lawyers pointed the jury to evidence that the coach had authorized Mr. Avenatti to be tough in discussions with Nike.
