'Top Chef Masters' Winner Floyd Cardoz Dies At 59 From Coronavirus

After Cardoz was tested for COVID -19, the CEO of The Bombay Canteen (Hunger Inc), in a statement said, "Mr Cardoz (59), now admitted to a hospital in NY in the USA, tested positive for COVID-19 on March 18, 2020".

The Chef was survived by his wife Barkha, and two sons named Justin and Peter. Hospitality Group, who confirmed the news to People magazine, Cardoz passed away Wednesday at Mountainside Medical Centre in New Jersey - he was 59-years-old. He won Top Chef Masters in 2011 during season three. "I was very anxious about my state of health and my position was very irresponsible, causing panic in several quarters", he wrote. Cardoz also ran the hugely popular Bombay Bread Bar - originally called Paowalla, a throwback to his origins in Mumbai's Goan Catholic community - from 2016 to September past year.

Floyd was known for his groundbreaking work on the New York City restaurant scene. He had recently launched his third venture, the Bombay Sweet Shop. Cardoz mentions in his post that he was feeling feverish and hence got himself hospitalized in a hospital in New Jersey.

He was in Mumbai until March 8 to celebrate the fifth-anniversary celebration of the Bombay canteen. He also owned two New York City restaurants: Tabla and Bombay Bread Bar.

The now-independent foundation, referred to as the Young Scientist Foundation, enables high school and college students to work alongside accomplished researchers to develop new treatments for diseases, according to a spokesperson for Cardoz's company.
