Latest election poll suggests United Kingdom faces hung parliament

If it was reflected on election day, a nine-point lead for the Tories would not translate into a landslide victory.

An ICM poll for the Guardian on Tuesday showed Labour gaining ground - a trend consistent with other pollsters - but suggested the Tories are still enjoying a healthy advantage. The Conservatives were still tipped to be the single largest party, but without an overall majority.

Perhaps the market is underestimating the risks from this election, and the prospect of a Labour manifesto that claims to nationalise United Kingdom utilities and the Royal Mail, the latter is up 10% in the last month, has been virtually ignored by investors.

"In the last week alone, more than 65% of bets have been on Labour".

Conservative chairman Sir Patrick McLoughlin may insist that the party is "very content" with the way the election is going but it is hardly controversial to state the campaign is not unfolding in the way Theresa May envisaged it would.

Britain's currency dipped against the euro and United States dollar in morning trading to 1.1438 and 1.286 respectively, as polls point to differing support for the Tories from the June 8 vote.

Stefan Shakespeare, CEO of YouGov said that it would only take a small shift in favor of the Conservatives to see them win a healthy majority in the general election.

Democrats, environmentalists blast idea United States could leave the Paris accord
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, left, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, right, enter a hall for their talks at the St. Other major powers, including China, have signaled they will uphold their commitments to Paris regardless of Trump's moves.

The latest YouGov poll suggests 69% of 18-24 year-olds would vote Labour and 19% Conservative.

The trade union Unite gave Labour £129,530, while Mr Corbyn's party was also boosted by further donations from other trade unions like Unison and the GMB.

Meanwhile, it tipped the Labour Party to gain almost 30 seats - a result that would give no party an overall majority in the House of Commons, forcing a coalition or a minority government.

Combining the model probabilities and estimated census counts, YouGov predicted who was likely to win each constituency.

"We doubt that the Times/YouGov research is giving us the true picture about how many seats each party will win on June 8th", Kathleen Brooks, EMEA Research Director at City Index, wrote in a note. May, who won the top job in the political chaos following the shock June 23 Brexit vote, used a speech on Thursday in northern England to pitch her vision of Brexit.

YouGov's chief executive stressed the central projection that "allows for a wide range of error" and that "the Tories could end up with as many as 345 and Labour as few as 223". The difference is due to the way the various polling companies compile their data and produce their numbers.
