Top White House Economist Says Trump's GDP Claim Was Wrong

Trump wished Clinton a happy anniversary of her'basket of deplorables speech

White House economist Kevin Hassett fact-checked a seemingly extraordinary claim about the country's GDP growth rate overtaking the unemployment rate for the first time in more than 100 years.

Gasparino was writing in response to a tweet from Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel.

Gasparino responded with a mix of snark and anger.

Trump at times boasts about economic news that he sees on Fox News in the morning, but Fox was one of the news organizations that characterized the Twitter post as wrong.

Obama, who reportedly has been running his "Organizing for America" operation, along with his White House aide Valerie Jarrett from his expensive home in a Washington neighborhood, spoke to a group of University of IL students last Friday, claiming it was his policies, not those of President Trump, that have produced the current economic boom. What is true is that it's the highest in 10 years.

Trump offered the bit of misinformation during a series of tweets touting the economy. "And at some point somebody probably conveyed it to him adding a zero to that and they shouldn't have done that".

Mr. Trump made clear he does not plan to surrender to his predecessor easily.

Trump Admin Will Shutter Palestine Liberation Office In D.C.
According to the Wall Street Journal , national security adviser John Bolton is expected to make the announcement on Monday. On Sunday, Trump also ordered that $25m earmarked for the care of Palestinians in East Jerusalem be directed elsewhere.

HASSETT: "And I think that if anyone were to assert that the capital spending boom that we're seeing right now was a continuation of the trend that President Trump inherited, then, well, they wouldn't get a high grade in graduate school for that assertion". Millions of Americans who can't stand Obama will just tune out the rhetoric, so different than Trump's and so missed by his supporters, but Obama's view of his successor is shared by prominent conservatives such as columnists George Will and Michael Gerson and Sens.

"When you don't tell the truth, when you just flat-out lie so much, how do you have any credibility, how can we believe that when it's the president himself who's lied thousands of times since he took the oath of office?"

Liabilities for the president and Republicans were laid bare by the latest CNN/SSRS poll published on Monday.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie also took issue with Obama's attempt to blame America's divisions on Trump, calling it "richly ironic" for him to refer to Trump as a "symptom" of the divide.

Inside Trump's wider drop in approval, his rating among independents tumbled from 47% to 31% since August, the kind of number that could do real damage when voters go to the polls.

If that pattern holds, Trump's approval rating would have to climb back into the low 40s for Republicans to have a realistic chance of stopping Democrats from winning the net 23 seats they need to take the House.
