Verizon Brings Home 5G Service to Four US Cities on October 1

Verizon plans to launch 5G internet and TV service in Los Angeles in October

Verizon has announced that it will be launching its 5G home broadband service on October 1 across parts of Sacramento, Los Angeles, Houston, and Indianapolis, with the service to provide typical network speeds of 300Mbps and peak speeds of 1Gbps. Verizon and others have been laying the foundation of 5G networks for some time. Those prices include taxes and fees, and the service does not require an annual contract. There are "no data caps" either.

The 5G service will cost existing Verizon subscribers $50 a month, and $70 a month for non-carrier customers.

Verizon has talked extensively about bringing 5G service to it customers and even confirmed its plans to make it available as soon as this fall. A complimentary three-month package for YouTube TV and a free Apple TV 4K or Google Chromecast Ultra are also included in the early bird bundle. In addition, the initial rollout will be extremely limited, and will encompass just four major US cities: Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Sacramento.

While the service won't be using the mobile 5G standard, Verizon will utilize mmWave technology which uses spectrum between 30 and 300 GHz.

Apple to Kick Off Product Blitz With iPhone Xs Line
Accordingly, the 6.1-inch version among the new Apple smartphones will not be called iPhone XS Light, but iPhone XC . Another leak had mentioned that the cheaper iPhone model, with the 6.1-inch LCD display, could be called iPhone Xc .

Note that this isn't 5G wireless service - that's not arriving until next year when 5G-ready phones are expected to become available.

5G is considered the next evolution in mobile technology that will create wireless networks faster and more powerful than the current 4G or LTE networks.

New automation software, a new networking processor, and a new operating system will help Cisco customers make the transition to next-generation networking.
