United Airlines Jet Skids Off Runway at Newark Airport

United Airlines passenger jet skids off runway at Newark airport

Newark airport said flights resumed after passengers were safely deplaned, but that it expected delays to continue.

Port Authority police, aircraft rescue firefighters and Emergency Service Unit teams were sent to the airport after reports that United Airlines flight 627 from Denver had veered off the runway at about 1 p.m.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) tweeted a statement saying no injuries were reported at the time but added that the agency is headed to the airport to investigate. After landing, the aircraft became disabled which is now affecting operations at Newark Airport.

India's retaliatory tariffs on US goods go into effect
India exports steel and aluminium products worth about $1.5 billion to the U.S. every year. India has not yet made good in its threats and has continually delayed its implementation.

Those traveling through Newark Airport are advised to check with their carriers before coming to the airport. No flights maintain been allowed to carry off or land on the airport, one of the busiest in the country. As soon as passengers exited the aircraft, the plane would be towed off the runway, officials said.

The FAA said the plane skidded off the pavement and its landing gear became stuck in a grassy area, but United spokesman Robert Einhorn said the plane remained on the runway.
