Konta Loses Cool With Reporter For 'Patronising' And 'Picking On Her'

Konta Loses Cool With Reporter For 'Patronising' And 'Picking On Her'

The quest for a home victor of Wimbledon has been postponed for another year at least after Johanna Konta was defeated in straight sets (7-6, 6-1) by unseeded Czech player Barbora Strycova in Tuesday's quarterfinal in front of an expectant, but ultimately disappointed, Center Court.

The Sydney-born, 28-year-old raised home hopes when she powered into a 4-1 lead against the unseeded Strycova but things turned ugly as she slumped to a 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 Centre Court defeat.

Tennis players at Wimbledon, and most professional tennis tournaments, are required to make themselves available to the press to ask questions nearly immediately they walk off the court.

Although both incredibly proficient at singles - Williams will play her semifinal match against Barbora Strycova tomorrow - the pairing brought some fun to the doubles.

"Please don't patronise me. I'm a professional competitor who did her best today, and that's all there is to that".

Riske, who upset top-ranked Ash Barty in the fourth round, had never before faced Williams on the tennis tour and was playing in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.

On the eve of the match, the former world men's no. 1 had hinted he might focus on getting his body into the condition necessary for singles rather than move on to the American hard court season.

"I think that the press conference is not necessarily the right place to address your shortcomings and your weaknesses", Beltrame says.

Williams says "I started seeing a therapist".

U.S. appeals court says Trump can not block Twitter followers
It would be interesting to get a Supreme Court ruling on this, even if it's to deny cert on an appeal of this ruling. However, let's also give the court credit for much wisdom in its concluding paragraph.

"If you don't want to accept that answer or you don't agree with it that's fine, but I still believe in the tennis I play and still believe in the way I competed".

Star tennis player Serena Williams was fined Monday by the All England Club for damaging a court during practice. Like the previous oldest last-four debutante, Roberta Vinci at the 2015 US Open, she will face Serena Williams at this stage. There's a lot of stuff I need to get done physically.

I wouldn't say anything has particularly surprised me about Serena as a player or a person, even though I didn't know her particularly well before we played and we have not spent loads of time together.

A testy exchange followed, with the reporter saying that if Konta wants to win a Grand Slam tournament one day she should be willing to learn from matches like this one. Equally so if I do.

"I play this game with dignity, and I love the sport".

The 2018 French Open champion will continue her campaign for a second grand slam title against Ukrainian eighth seed Elina Svitolina in the final four.

Serena will have to be on her toes and ready for anything at any time; so far, when she's played Strycova, she has been.

"How would you guys digest that, and would you feel any sort of lingering kind of, 'Oh, you know what?"
