Pitt says he was failing to live an interesting life

This NASA TV frame grab obtained Monday shows US actor Brad Pitt during a live conversation with NASA officials and astronaut Nick Hague.-AFP

Pitt's latest film Ad Astra opens Friday.

"Hey Brad, this is Nick". I've got you loud and clear. Hague is a NASA astronaut and U.S. Air Force colonel.

If you would like to listen in on Pitt's call with Hague-in which the NASA astronaut will answer questions from the actor-head to NASA TV or the space agency's website, where it will be streamed live starting at 11:35 a.m. EDT.

Imagine the taglines in the movie ads: "Really good" portrayal of zero-gravity!

Pitt and Hague continued to chat, discussing India's recent Chandrayaan-2 lunar landing attempt and Hague's Expedition 60 mission to the space station, which is coming to a close in October.

In response to Pitt's question about how his time in space and away from his family affects his mental state, Hague explained that technology allows him to stay connected. He also spoke of the remarkable collaboration between the various countries who have astronauts aboard the space station. "International cooperation is so important", he said.

Tropical Storm Humberto targets hurricane-hit Bahamas
Another storm is approaching the Bahamas , the Atlantic island chain devastated by Hurricane Dorian earlier this month. Hurricane Dorian was the strongest hurricane to ever hit the islands. "He's still there.

Pitt asked about how Hague and the rest of the crew manage their sleep schedules and what their working hours are like. Hague told the actor that he's almost completed a 200-day mission limit and and is expected to return home to Earth in early October. He said his work includes science experiments, maintenance to the space station, space walks, developments of new kinds of rubber, and gene editing.

Pitt ended the conversation in the best way possible - by asking which actor portrayed an astronaut better: him in "Ad Astra" or George Clooney in 2013 film "Gravity".

The effort-named after Greek deity Artemis, twin sister of Apollo and goddess of the Moon-will help put the first woman and the next man on the Moon's south pole by 2024.

Astra director James Gray (The Lost City of Z), who has known Pitt for more than two decades, tells EW that though he didn't pen the script for his longtime friend - "I never actually write projects with actors in mind, because you're always disappointed when they don't do it" - he did end up getting exactly the performance he hoped for: "In some ways, because he's a star, Brad's acting is underrated".

"Nick, thank you so much, it's been an absolute pleasure, a real dream of mine", Pitt told Hague.

"What you're able to do through storytelling to inspire the next generation is so critical to the success of our programs in the future", the 43-year-old astronaut said. "And I couldn't step into that role".
