Djokovic heaps praise on 'very complete' Medvedev

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have different personalities,games-Becker

Earlier, John Isner served his 1,000th ace of the season but it wasn't enough to stop defending champion Novak Djokovic from advancing with a 7-5, 6-3 win.

Roger Federer predicted earlier this week that it would be hard for the Big Three (Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and himself) to keep dominating at the Grand Slams next year, as the next generation of players are now "playing with the big boys, and being really able to challenge and beat us".

'He had the high-quality tennis and he played very well after his serve, ' the 32-year-old Serb said of Tsitsipas.

"I managed to kind of read his serve and find a good position on the return, at the end of the first set and also beginning of the second", said Djokovic.

"I was playing really defensive earlier in the year and not with a lot of confidence". It's really open now for the finish of this tournament.

Prior to Friday's match, Fognini said Medvedev was one of the most risky players to face.

If Djokovic performed better than he might have expected, Federer was a little taken aback by the level of opponent Goffin, whom he thrashed in straight sets for the loss of just four games at the US Open.

Stefanos Tsitsipas won a huge match in the previous round as he defeated Novak Djokovic in 3 sets. (Minute Media) There's no denying that Roger Federer is a transcendent talent, but for tennis fans with children, it's always been tough to watch him play due to his reputation for outbursts and unprofessional behavior.

Italy's Fognini, 12th in the world, was broken in the sixth game of the first set when he double-faulted. The third set was not particularly close, as the German won 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.

But that was guaranteed when third-seeded Daniil Medvedev beat Fabio Fognini 6-3, 7-6 (4) in another quarterfinal match.

One of 26 unforced errors from Djokovic gave Tsitsipas, who produced an array of searing backhand and forehand winners, three break points and he grasped the opportunity to take a 3-1 lead in the third before going on to seal his place in the penultimate round.

Djokovic sits at the top of the rankings at the moment but trails Rafa Nadal in the yearly standings and, with the Spaniard absent from Shanghai, had hoped to make up significant ground in China.

British number two Heather Watson confirmed her best week of a forgettable season when she made the semi-final of the WTA Tianjin Open, also in China, when she beat Poland's Magda Linette 7-5 6-7 7-6.

World No. 7 Tsitsipas, who qualified for his maiden year-end ATP Finals yesterday, is the youngest player to defeat each member of the Big Three.
