A man stabbed and wounded five people in a mall in the northern English city of Manchester on Friday, in an incident that was being investigated by the United Kingdom counter-terror police.

At least five people have been treated after a stabbing incident, following an attack at the Arndale Centre in Manchester where. Another woman and a 50-year-old man were also hospitalized after sustaining stab injuries.

"We do not know the motivation for this bad attack", Greater Manchester Police Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson told reporters. The Sun reports that dramatic footage shows a man being tasered by police outside the packed shopping centre.

Freddie Holder, 22, from Market Drayton, Shropshire, said he heard "a load of screams just outside" the shop he was in.

Counter-terrorism officers are leading an investigation into the incident, the police said on Friday.

People have gathered around watching the police activity, while others seem to be carrying on with their day.

"The center has been evacuated while police investigate the incident", he said. He was initially arrested at the scene on suspicion of "serious assault", although the incident is now suspected to be terror-related.

World Mental Health Day 2019
One of the major and treatable risk factors for suicide is depression: almost 15-20 percent of people suffering from depression choose to end their life through suicide.

"He was armed with a large knife and. he began lunging and attacking people with the knife", Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson told reporters.

It was reported five people had been stabbed, however in the latest statement the force have confirmed three people were stabbed, with an additional fourth person, who was not stabbed, being treated by paramedics.

The attack happened at the Arndale shopping centre in the heart of Manchester, where an Islamist extremist suicide bomber killed 22 after an Ariana Grande concert in 2017.

"I definitely don't think it was gang violence because this guy was going around trying to stab random people, I believe".

Councillor Nigel Murphy, deputy leader of Manchester City Council, said the "incident is under control" and advised people to stay away from the scene to enable the emergence services to carry out their work.

The police have arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of serious assault. The scene has been secured and all emergency services are engaged in ensuring public safety - the investigation is ongoing.

Jackson said the incident was "bound to bring back memories of the terrible events of 2017", when 22 people were killed after a suicide bomber targeted a concert by pop star Ariana Grande at Manchester Arena, a venue only few hundred meters away.
