Padres pitcher Jacob Nix arrested after entering home through doggie door

Jacob Nix and fellow pitcher Thomas Cosgrove, both 23 and in the Padres minor league organization, were arrested Sunday on suspicion of first-degree criminal trespass after Nix allegedly crawled though the pet door at a home in Peoria, Ariz., a Phoenix suburb, San Diego television station KFMB reported.

According to the report provided by the Peoria Police Department, Cosgrove told police that he and Nix had been drinking in Scottsdale when they made a decision to split a Uber back to Nix's residence.

Nix reportedly told police he thought he was entering his own home but also admitted to not having a doggy door, multiple media outlets reported.

Charging documents say Nix was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Nix - who was kicked in the face by the homeowner, Tasered and arrested a short while later after Cosgrove pulled him from the doggy door - acknowledged to officers that he did not have any animals at his home, nor did he have a doggy door.

"We are aware of the alleged incident involving Jacob Nix last Sunday in Arizona", the San Diego Padres said in a statement on Twitter. Online records show NIx does not have an attorney.

Nix started nine games for the Padres in 2018 before spending last season rehabbing an elbow injury.

On the Maricopa County court's official website, as of October 10, Nix is listed as charged with one count of criminal trespassing for entering the residence. He pitched 33 innings in the lower levels of the minors in 2019, posting a 5.45 ERA. He has a preliminary court hearing scheduled for October 16. He is now playing for the Peoria Javelinas, an Arizona Fall League team. "Due to the ongoing legal proceedings, we will not have any further comment at this time", it said.

Nix, 23, was a third-round pick by the Padres in 2015 and now is pitching in the Arizona Fall League for the Peoria Javelinas.
