1 dead, several ill after chemical accident at a Buffalo Wild Wings

While looking into threatening phone calls Buffalo Wild Wings had received Naperville police investigated the possibility that a hate crime occurred during an Oct. 26 racial incident at the restaurant on 75th Street. It was ultimately determined that

The specific contents of the acid-based cleaner used at Buffalo Wild Wings remain under investigation.

A total of 12 individuals also checked themselves into Lahey Hospital once the product was released, while a 13th person self-checked into a Lowell-area hospital shortly after the incident, Patterson said.

Buffalo Wild Wings did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

The patients included restaurant employees and patrons, and their symptoms included difficulty breathing and burning feelings in their eyes, the statement said.

"We are shocked and saddened to learn of this horrific accident at our franchise-owned sports bar and are working closely with our franchisee and the authorities while they conduct an investigation".

It's unclear whether the chemical was mixed with something else. The product is commercially known as Super 8.

An employee opened a bottle of Super 8, a common sanitizer made from sodium hypochlorite, and began to clean the floor with it.

The man, who has not yet been named, was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.

"For some reason tonight, there was just a reaction that led to this", he said. Patterson says more people could have gone to the hospital because fire officials advised anyone who was at the restaurant at the time to seek medical attention.

He tried to get the chemical out of the building after another employee who had mixed the substances had fallen ill, Patterson added.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 5:36 p.m.

Officers investigated the October 26 incident in which two managers asked a large group of parents and children to move tables because a regular customer did not want to sit next to black people.

"If it's an industrial or commercial product, the staff needs to be trained", says Goldberg, who has previously trained employees on how to evaluate and use cleaning products.

Burlington fire officials said in a statement Thursday night that the probe is being conducted "by the Burlington Fire and Police Departments, with assistance from the state Department of Fire Services and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)".

They were being treated with oxygen, and none of them was believed to be in serious condition, according to Patterson.
