Royal family lead nation in tribute to war dead

Leaders from the main political parties took a break from the United Kingdom general election campaign to join members of the royal family in honouring the country's war dead.

Prince William and Prince Harry then both laid wreaths of their own.

Thousands of veterans and service personnel marched past the Cenotaph in London as Remembrance Sunday services were held at churches, cemeteries and war memorials across Britain in tribute to those killed in past and recent conflicts.

Harry admitted he and his brother were on "different paths" in an emotional TV interview with Tom Bradby in October.

The service was also attended by Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

As the clock hit 11 a.m, those in attendance marked two minutes of silence which ended with the firing of a gun by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

All the Best Stats as Frank Lampard's Chelsea Youngsters Beat Crystal Palace
Tammy Abraham's composed finish gave the Blues the lead, as the 22-year-old moved up to ten league strikes for the season. James' inclusion at right-back for Chelsea brought the average age of their starting XI down to 24 years and 88 days.

Ramsey will also hold its annual civic service of remembrance in the Courthouse Grounds, while in the south a procession will take place ahead of a silence at the war memorial in Market Square in Castletown.

A military band played as royals, politicians, leaders from many religious faiths and diplomats from the Commonwealth of former British colonies laid wreaths on the Portland stone monument, erected after World War I and inscribed with the words "the glorious dead".

All three services played traditional music for the service, including the Last Post, played by Buglers of the Royal Marines.

After wreaths are laid, the Bishop of London, Dame Sarah Mullally, will lead a service of remembrance which will end with trumpeters of the Royal Air Force sounding Rouse (Reveille).

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had an emotional moment as she was seen wiping a tear from her face during the annual Cenotaph Remembrance Sunday ceremony earlier this morning.

This year also marks the 75th anniversaries of numerous battles such as D-Day, Kohima, Arnhem and Monte Cassino.
