House impeachment hearing gets rancorous as lawyers testify

Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, sought to undermine the legitimacy of President Donald Trump's possible re-election on Sunday.

"The evidence is overwhelming that the president abused his power by pressuring Ukraine and its new president to investigate a political opponent", said Barry Berke, staff attorney for the Judiciary Committee.

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler on Monday accused President Donald Trump of putting "himself before country", at a hearing that kicks off a two-week sprint for Democrats likely to end in the third impeachment of a president in U.S. history. That was bribery, they say, since Trump was withholding almost $400 million in military aid that Ukraine depended on to counter Russian aggression.

"Presumption has become the standard instead of proof", Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia, the committee's ranking member, said.

"A president can not abuse his power to secure an election", Berke said.

The White House is refusing to participate in the impeachment process, and Rep. Collins asked to postpone Monday's hearing, criticizing Democrats for moving too swiftly.

Giuliani wants to take information to Barr, Congress
President Donald Trump did not care about corruption in general in Ukraine - only with regard to Joe Biden , a political rival. Among those Giuliani has made contact with is former prosecutor Yuriy Lutsenko.

It has been 20 years since Americans last witnessed impeachment proceedings, when Republicans brought charges against Democratic President Bill Clinton arising from a sexual relationship he had with a White House intern. America's sick of the treason committed by the Democratic Party.

The impeachment case has revolved around a July 25 phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

Republican counsel Steve Castor laid out his own pattern - one that he says shows the Democrats were working to impeach the President since the day he took office.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., demanded that Nadler schedule a hearing in which Republicans can call their own witnesses.

My objection is not that you can not impeach Trump for abuse of power but that this record is comparably thin compared to past impeachments and contains conflicts, contradictions, and gaps including various witnesses not subpoenaed. But Democrats say Ukraine is a central piece of a larger narrative of Trump abusing his office.

Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, who closed the first portion of the hearing by accusing Democrats of recessing to hold a press conference before Castor presented his evidence, loudly blasted Nadler and said, "You're going to try to overturn the results of an election with unelected people giving testimony".
