First coronavirus death outside China reported in Philippines

Worldwide travel companies and national governments have taken steps to stop the spread of the virus as cases continue to be reported in new countries.

Two major USA airlines are halting all flights to and from China's mainland, citing the State Department advisory.

Internationally, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Israel have banned foreign nationals from visiting if they have been in China recently, and they have also warned their own citizens against travelling there.

German Health Minister Spahn said he had spoken to his US counterpart and agreed that the Group of Seven health ministers should hold a teleconference on how to co-ordinate efforts against the coronavirus.

A number of other countries have issued similar travel warnings to their citizens, though many are focusing on Wuhan's Hubei province, where most of the cases have occurred, rather than the entire Chinese mainland.

China found itself increasingly isolated over the weekend, with the United States and Australia leading a growing list of nations to impose extraordinary Chinese travel bans.

The patient has travel history from China.

"This is the saddest New Year I can remember", said 25-year-old Maggie Le, who said she has delayed her return to work from Zhejiang province to Shenzhen by almost two weeks.

The US emergency declaration also requires Americans returning from the ground zero Chinese province of Hubei to be placed in mandatory 14-day quarantine, and health screening for US citizens coming from other parts of China.

It spread globally on the wings of a Lunar New Year holiday rush that sees hundreds of millions of Chinese people travel domestically and overseas.

The new coronavirus emerged only last month.

A special flight brought 312 Bangladeshis back from Wuhan, including eight who were hospitalized with high temperatures.

Ma said he was "in a state of guilt, remorse and self-reproach".

Wuhan officials have been criticized online for withholding information about the outbreak until late December despite knowing of it weeks earlier.

Wuhan, a city of 11 million people and the capital of Hubei province, has been under quarantine since January 23.

It was reported that 45 people died in the last 24 hours and 19,544 were suspected of being infected.

In China the number of confirmed cases grew Saturday to 14,380, with 304 deaths.

The U.S. declared a public health emergency due to the new type of coronavirus epidemic. This has been confirmed by the World Health Authority.

Mongolia suspended all arrivals from China until 2 March.

The first positive case of the viral infection was also reported in the same state, with the first patient being a student from Wuhan University in China.

The CDC is the only lab in the United States that can confirm cases of the novel coronavirus. The virus' rapid spread in two months prompted the World Health Organization on Thursday to declare it a global emergency.

"Our experience with the SARS outbreak also suggests that the rebound post-2019-nCoV may be able to offset most of the weakness expected in 1H20", said UOB, which revised China's 3Q and 4Q GDP growth to above 6%, compared with 5.9% and 6.0% forecasted previously.

The Foreign Office, which has withdrawn some staff from China and closed the British Consulate-General in Wuhan, said it is continuing to work with European Union countries to add remaining Britons to any rescue flights they may charter back from Wuhan.

"Our thoughts are with the people most immediately affected by the coronavirus and with those working around the clock to study and contain it", Apple, based in Cupertino, Calif., said in a statement. It also risks worsening a slowdown in the world's second-largest economy.

Evacuation flights by European governments out of Wuhan - where the virus was first identified - are expected to continue, with a plane carrying 128 people landing in Germany on Saturday and more flights planned for Sunday.
