Sarah Lawrence College dad pleads not guilty in sex trafficking, extortion case

Father Of A Former Sarah Lawrence Student Charged With Creating Sex Cult

Ray presented himself as the father figure in the dorm, and when school let out for summer in 2011, several of his daughter's roommates moved into Ray's one-bedroom apartment on New York City's Upper East Side. That victim allegedly was forced to work as a prostitute for more than four years, and Ray allegedly collected more than $500,000 from her, Berman said.

"His machismo was out of place on the liberal-arts campus", the New York Magazine article stated.

"Ray subjected his victims to almost unspeakable abuse", Berman said, alleging Ray once tied a woman to a chair and placed a plastic bag over her head that nearly suffocated her.

Ray's psychological and physical abuse began after he moved into his daughter's on-campus housing during her sophomore year in late 2010 and started "therapy" sessions with some of her roommates, according to the indictment.

"For so many of us and our children, college is supposed to be a time of self-discovery and newfound independence, a chance to explore and learn all within the safety of a college community", said Geoffrey S. Berman, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of NY, in a press conference on Tuesday.

While living at Sarah Lawrence College and in the Manhattan apartment, Ray would interrogate the victims for hours and often employed such tactics as sleep deprivation, sexual and psychological humiliation, verbal and physical abuse, and threats until they made the false confessions, according to the indictment.

As the victims struggled to repay Ray for the supposed offenses, some drained their parent's savings accounts in amounts of hundreds of thousands of dollars, opened lines of credit or sold off real-estate property, according to the indictment.

Neighbors say that the home has been under construction for years.

The victims were "girls and boys young enough to be his children", Geoffrey Berman, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of NY, said at a press conference on February 11.

Thirteenth U.S. Coronavirus Case, First in an Evacuee
Americans returning from Wuhan undergo 14 days of quarantine meant to prevent them from spreading coronavirus in the community. Health Minister Katsunobu Kato says the first fatality is a woman in her 80s who had been hospitalized since February 1.

Ray, also known as Ray Grecco, allegedly used physical and psychological threats and coercion to indoctrinate and exploit a group of college students, both male and female.

On Tuesday, federal prosecutors laid out a very disturbing case against Lawrence Ray, who was arrested earlier in the morning in Piscataway, N.J.

Prosecutors told the judge they executed a search warrant Tuesday at a storage facility associated with Ray.

Because the students couldn't afford payments Ray demanded they give him, they were directed to get money from the parents and others, Berman said. The indictment also says Ray took and kept explicit photographs of some of the victims and sometimes documented their false confessions, including on video. Authorities have interviewed 17 witnesses and obtained IRS records that show that Ray did not pay taxes during the period of his alleged criminal conduct, Sassoon said.

Man at the center of Sarah Lawrence College scandal allegedly used the domain aftermarket to launder criminal proceeds. His attorneys declined to comment Wednesday.

"As always the safety and well-being of our students and alumni is a priority for the College", the statement said. "At that time, the college undertook an internal investigation regarding the specific activities alleged in the article to have occurred on our campus in 2011; the investigation did not substantiate those claims".

According to New York Magazine, Ray previously co-owned Malibu, a now-defunct nightclub in Scotch Plains.

"We have not been contacted by the Southern District of NY, but will of course cooperate in their investigation to the full extent of the law if invited to do so", the statement said.
