Thirteenth U.S. Coronavirus Case, First in an Evacuee

The CDC says this woman is the 13 confirmed case of the virus in the United States and is the first among hundreds who have been evacuated from China to the U.S. They are under two-week quarantines at military bases in California, Texas and Nebraska. The four returned to quarantine at a nearby air station.

The 13th case of the novel coronavirus in the US has been detected in California, the Facilities for Illness Management and Prevention stated Monday.

Just over 500 cases have been reported outside of mainland China.

A number of test kits sent out by USA health authorities to labs across the country to diagnose the deadly novel coronavirus are faulty, a senior official said Wednesday.

Health Minister Katsunobu Kato says the first fatality is a woman in her 80s who had been hospitalized since February 1.

Americans returning from Wuhan undergo 14 days of quarantine meant to prevent them from spreading coronavirus in the community. The other two cases were person-to-person transmission.

Abbas at United Nations gives muted rejection to Trump 'annexation' plan
Its representative stressed that any steps toward annexation would not be recognised by Berlin or its European partners. Most countries consider Israeli settlements on land captured in and after 1967 to be a violation of worldwide law.

Officials have been warning that a negative test for the virus does not necessarily mean someone will not get it, the Post said.

"This is an accurate test", said Nancy Messonnier, who heads the coronavirus response at the CDC, in a briefing last week. That locked-down city of 11 million is the epicenter of the highly contagious disease, which has killed more than 1,000 people overseas. Hubei previously only allowed infections to be confirmed by a specific test that was in short supply. The person was "misidentified" as testing negative, Messonnier said. "We've worked closely with the CDC to safeguard patient privacy while making sure labeling matches at all centers". The exact timing and occurrences on base - how long the infected evacuee was present and everything he or she did while there - has not yet been made public.

Officials have added additional quality control protocols to the testing process as a result of the mixup. This is the 14th confirmed case of the virus in the U.S.

San Diego - An evacuee from China was released from a hospital in San Diego on Sunday before further tests confirmed the person was infected with Wuhan coronavirus. The agency said the first group of people who were evacuated from Wuhan to the March Air Reserve Base in Riverside were cleared to leave the base after being under quarantine for 14 days.

The woman had not interacted with other evacuees and was returned for observation at the hospital, where she's doing well with minimal symptoms, according to officials. Not one of these evacuees tested positive.
