United States records first known child death from coronavirus

Doctors In America's Two Largest Cities Told To Skip Some Coronavirus Testing

A young person under the age of 18 has died after contracting COVID-19 in Los Angeles County, likely becoming the first child to die from the virus in the United States.

In San Diego, patrolling police were reportedly stopping people from walking on the sand at beaches.

A statement by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health warned the cause of death "will require further evaluation". "Though early tests indicated a positive result for COVID-19, the case is complex and there may be an alternate explanation for this fatality".

According to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report released last week, there had been no coronavirus fatalities in the United States of people under 18. The teen, who had underlying health conditions, was believed to be the youngest person to die from the virus in the country.

The CDC will review his case, and eventually county officials will determine a cause of death.

A recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report found juveniles "appear to have milder Covid-19 illness", with no intensive care admissions or deaths in the U.S. as of March 16. No other information is so far known about their identity.

"This is a devastating reminder that COVID-19 affects people of all ages", said Ferrer of the death of the young person.

Parris said the boy's father also has coronavirus and worked in a job where he had close contact with the public.

The cabins had not yet been sanitized at that point, and CDC researchers said it was too early to draw conclusions from the data. The traces were found in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic infected passengers before the cabins were disinfected .

Less than three percent of hospitalisations from coronavirus were due to that age group.

Californians were told they should only leave their homes for essential needs, such as buying groceries, purchasing medications and attending doctor or veterinary appointments. While most people and businesses were obeying the orders, there were hints that authorities were losing patience with scofflaws.

Newsom reaffirmed he wants to continue using social pressure, not police enforcement, to get people to maintain safe spacing.

The novel coronavirus is not typically severe for juveniles, and the unidentified youth from Lancaster - just north of Los Angeles - did not have any pre-existing medical conditions, Mayor Eric Garcetti said.

"Young people can and will be impacted by this virus", he said.

However, the county counsel's office took issue with Villanueva's interpretation. "In interpreting those orders, county counsel has opined that gun stores qualify as essential businesses".
