While people and businesses slowly begin to make the most of the situation amid the lockdown, Bollywood filmmakers and producers are also making sure their films and shows get a timely release. Apart from Gulabo Sitabo and Shankuntala Devi, Amazon will release legal drama Ponmagal Vandhal starring Jyotika (Chandramukhi) in addition to Keerthy Suresh (Mahanathie) starrer Penguin (Tamil and Telugu), Sufiyum Sujatayum (Malayalam), Law (Kannada) and French Biryani (Kannada). Actor Jauasurya also confirmed the report by sharing a poster on his social media pages.

So, are you excited about big ticket Bollywood films like Gulabo Sitabo releasing on OTT platforms?

Well, it may be remembered that a few weeks ago, Jyothika's Tamil movie "Ponmagal Vandhal" was announced to be released directly on OTT platforms that sparked controversy in the industry.

A day after announcing the premiere of Shoojit Sircar's Gulabo Sitabo, Amazon Prime Video on Friday released the list of an additional six films that will be premiering directly on the streaming service.

"Indian audiences have been eagerly awaiting the release of these seven highly anticipated films and we are delighted that Amazon Prime Video will now be premiering these movies for our customers - who can enjoy watching these from the safety & comfort of their homes and on a screen of their choice". The film is written and directed by Eshavar Karthic. Vidya wrapped up the shoot for the biopic in November a year ago and the film was scheduled to release in summer 2020.

"MAI would like to urge all studio partners, producers, artistes and content creators to support the cinema exhibition sector, a vital part of the value chain by holding and releasing their films in the theatres once they open again", the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) had said in a statement earlier this month. "Such acts, though isolated, vitiate the atmosphere of mutual partnership and paint these content producers as fair-weather friends rather than all-weather life-long partners", INOX said in its statement.
