Hackers demand $21 million ransom from lawyer to the stars

Cyber criminals hold personal information for ransom

"We can confirm that we've been victimised by a cyber-attack", a representative said in a statement. "We continue to represent our clients with the utmost professionalism worthy of their elite stature, exercising the quality, integrity and excellence that have made us the number-one entertainment and media law firm in the world". "We've employed the world's consultants who specialize on this space, and we're working across the clock to deal with these issues".

The group has beforehand focused firms and organizations together with Travelex, the U.Ok. -based currency-exchange firm, which paid $2.three million in bitcoin to hackers after a ransomware assault, the Wall Avenue Journal reported. The group claims to have compromised 756GB of data including contracts and personal emails and it's threatening to release the sensitive information in nine instalments. 756 gigabytes of personal data would be in the wrong hands: phone numbers, addresses, e-mail, but also contracts and confidentiality agreements, says Variety.

It is still unclear how the ransomware operators managed to get hold of Trump's confidential data as he has never been a client of the law firm.

The US Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are continuing to probe hacking group REvil, who attacked the server of attorney Allen Grubman's NYC firm and stole 756 gigabytes of confidential documents relating to his firm's clients including Lady Gaga, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Priyanka Chopra and Bette Midler.

"His view is, if he paid, the hackers might release the documents anyway", an anonymous source told the outlet on Thursday.

Mysterious disease affecting children linked to coronavirus
Multisystem inflammatory sydrome in children was previously called pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome. Six of those confirmed also tested positive for the coronavirus , Persichilli said.

The group demanded a ransom of $6 million in return for not deleting sensitive customer information.

Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, basketball player LeBron James and actresses Priyanka Chopra and Sofia Vergara are also on Grubman's books. Posting a sample of stolen data is often done as a way to prove a hack has happened and put pressure on a victim to pay a ransom.

The law firm and some of the celebrities have been approached for further comment.

"In a highly competitive and now digitally-disrupted legal services market, few law firms are prioritising investment into holistic cyber resilience and defense, understand their attack surface, let alone conduct sufficient employee training", said Kolochenko.
