Samsung unveils the Galaxy A Quantum featuring a quantum security chip

Galaxy A Quantum launched in South Korea as SK Telecom exclusive

The new Samsung Galaxy A Quantum has arrived in the market.

The Samsung Galaxy A Quantum is the world's first 5G smartphone equipped with a quantum random number generator (QRNG) chipset, which is developed by SK Telecom's Switzerland-based subsidiary ID Quantique.

As of now, the Galaxy A Quantum seems to be available only in South Korea, and it is not clear if Samsung will eventually bring it to other nations as well. Those who pre-order the phone will be eligible to receive the Galaxy Buds for free. It generators random numbers through quantum-crypto technology and creates secure keys that can not be predicted, thus enhancing the security of the device.

The generated random number can be fed to various smartphone apps for user authentication and generating encryption keys, for example, in mobile payment apps. Up front, the Galaxy A Quantum features a 32-megapixel selfie camera. The camera array features four sensors: a 64MP main, 12MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro, and 5MP depth sensor.

Trump calls on governors to reopen schools
For example, right now children presenting with COVID-19 who have a very odd inflammatory syndrome similar to Kawasaki syndrome. I think we know it's going to be even longer than three months", Garcetti said.

On top of that, the phone is also integrated with enhanced quantum cryptography. the cryptography is applied on the Galaxy A Quantum 5G through an advanced two-factor authentication (2FA). Also, the smartphone has One UI 2.0 based on Android 10. The entire setup is powered by a 4,500mAh battery, with 25W fast charging.

It comes with Samsung Pay and a QRNG chipset. Colour options for the Samsung Galaxy A Quantum include Black, Blue, and Silver. The price of the device is at 649,000 Won (~RM2,285) and only Korea will get the variant with the Quantum RNG chipset.

Conventional random number generators now used in smartphones are often a target for attackers.

The SKT IDQ S2Q00, which is the world's smallest QRNG chipset (at 2.5mm x 2.5mm), uses an LED and a CMOS image sensor. Due to quantum noise, the LED emits a random number of photons, which are captured and counted by the image sensor's pixels, giving a series of raw random numbers that can be accessed directly by the user applications.
