NASCAR Cup Series Toyota 500 in Wednesday primetime

Crew members push the car of driver Ryan Newman as they wear masks as required for safety measures due to the coronavirus pandemic before the Toyota 500 NASCAR Cup Series auto race Wednesday

NASCAR EVP and Chief Racing Development Officer, Steve O'Donnell talks to Fox News Autos editor Gary Gastelu about the challenges of restarting the NASCAR season at Darlington Raceway amid the coronavirus pandemic. It will be the 117th Cup Series race hosted by "The Track Too Tough to Tame". NASCAR has used an inversion system based on the results of Sunday night's race to set the field and Harvick will start 20th.

A second day of heavy rain and thunderstorms has delayed the start of Wednesday night's Toyota 500k, which is slated to be just the second live NASCAR event to take place since the sport was put on hiatus in mid-March by the COVID-19 pandemic. The National Weather Service has a flash flood watch in effect for the Darlington area through Thursday.

It also represented a 38% increase over the last race at Phoenix on March 8, before the lockdown began.

Some have wondered why NASCAR won't move the start of Wednesday's race to an even earlier time.

Obama and Trump Shun White House Presidential Portrait Unveiling Ceremony
But Trump had no response when asked what crime he though Obama had committed. The White House did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Darlington Raceway is 1.366 miles long and the 228-lap race covers 310.6 miles, or 500 kilometers.

Wednesday night's Cup Series race has already been moved up to 6 p.m. ET because of the threat of rain.

Continued rainfall has forced NASCAR officials to postpone Tuesday's NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway. If that race gets rained out - and there's a non-zero chance of rain in the forecast for Wednesday - it will be run on Thursday evening after the Xfinity Series race.
